Our bees

Fox asleep surrounded by plants

Fox sleeping in the sun, Catford

Although Catford is part of the Borough of Lewisham, with a large population, it still has it’s green spaces.

There are so many gardens and street trees that bees do well here. In fact city bees in general do better than bees in the countryside, and produce more honey, with more interesting flavours.

The following images are of bees in the summer

Keeping bees leads to a great fascination with them. They have considerable powers of organisation and communication. They also have a brain that is able to remember the way around several square miles, and to make perfectly shaped hexagonal cells. A bees brain is about one cubic millimetre and has about a million brain cells.
